Life & Legacy Planning Session

You'll learn about something really important called an “estate plan” — a plan to take care of your family and everything you own in case something unexpected happens. We'll review the state's default plan for you, and if you'd prefer something else, we'll design the right plan for you and your family.

I'll need some information about your family (client homework), but don't worry — it's all confidential. You'll walk away with a complete list of your assets, ready for your family in case of any emergency.

Plan review & finalize

Once we've decided to work together and completed the plan design during the Life & Legacy session (sometimes in two parts), you'll receive a complete list of every choice and decision made about your estate plan — guardians, executors, powers of attorney, trustees, and more. You review, finalize, and approve everything before drafting begins.

The Ceremony

Signing ceremony

Yes, it is a ceremony! We review your legal documents together and identify the provisions personalized to your family and your decisions. This is done with a notary and witnesses to comply with legal requirements and ensure everything is done properly.

If Applicable

Funding your trust

If you've chosen a Revocable Living Trust as the cornerstone of your plan, we walk through the steps to fund it — updating ownership and beneficiaries so everything aligns with your new estate plan. We're there to either do it for you or guide you through it, for existing assets and new ones you acquire over time.

Our Favorite Part

Family Legacy Interview

One of the most meaningful values you can pass on to your family, and a hallmark of working with a Personal Family Lawyer®. We give you topics to consider, then record a loving video for posterity — your values, traditions, words of wisdom, and anything you want your family to know, now and for the future. This is truly about leaving a legacy.

Step Seven

Take comfort in your new plan

Before you celebrate and take a sigh of relief, we work together to make sure your nominated agents (fiduciaries) are notified of the trust you've placed in their roles. We even help facilitate that conversation with your agents if you'd like us to.

It's a way to ensure the key people in your plan have exactly what they need to act in an emergency and for any ongoing administration of your estate — so no one is caught off guard if anything happens to you.
